Outcome measures

Hair fall was scored by counting hairs lost in a 60-second combing test (score 1 = 50–100 hairs, 2 = 100–150, 3 = more than 150). Dandruff was scored with the Adherent Scalp Flaking Score across eight scalp zones (0–10 each). Scalp itching and hair roughness were graded 0–3. Assessments were made every 15 days and analysed with the Wilcoxon signed-rank test.

Safety and tolerability

The secondary end point was adverse effects reported by participants. Participants also gave feedback on the oil’s smell. To fill: adverse-event findings from the study records — the publication does not report them explicitly

Limits of the evidence

Open-label, single-group study without a control oil, funded by Herbal Hills, with 5 of 50 participants dropping out. Hair fall was scored in bands rather than exact counts. Results are not a guarantee for every user.

Results reported

Measure Day 0 (mean) Day 60 (mean) Change
Hair fall (comb test score) 2.67 ± 0.48 1.00 ± 0.00 −62.5%
Scalp flaking (ASFS) 5.51 ± 1.71 0.18 ± 0.58 −96.8%
Scalp itching 2.31 ± 0.47 0.00 −100%
Hair texture (roughness) 2.16 ± 0.37 0.00 −100%

All four measures improved at each 15-day visit, and every change was statistically significant (p<0.05). The average comb-test score moved from the ‘fair to poor’ range at baseline to the ‘good’ range (50–100 hairs) by day 60.
